Northeastern Area Course and Enjoying the Bounty of the Naka River

Visit the northeastern area of Tochigi Prefecture, which is full of hidden gems!

Nasukarasuyama City and Nakagawa Town are located in the northeastern area of Tochigi Prefecture. Naka River, a clear stream running through the area, is known for ayu (sweetfish). Enjoy a tour of the river, surrounding forest, hot springs, museums, and shrines that all come together to create a lively atmosphere.

Check Point

The Bato Hiroshige Museum of Art, designed in the image of the woodblock print "Evening Squall at Shono" from the Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido series, should not be missed. The architect is Kengo Kuma, who also designed Japan's National Stadium in Tokyo.

The torii gate at the Torinoko Sansho Shrine straddles the border between Tochigi and Ibaraki Prefecture.

The Naka River, along with the Shimanto River in Kochi, is famous for ayu (sweetfish) swimming upstream.
