From the past to the present and the future at Ashio Copper Mine

Ashio made a huge contribution to the origin of Japanese modern industry. You can see a trace of Ashio Copper Mine flourished as a “copper mining town.”
Now, natural environment damaged by air pollution is brought into the spotlight, and they are working to improve the environment for the future.
This is a tour that you can think together about the stepping stone from “industrial heritage” to “environmental city.”
You can learn the idea of SDGs that brings in the economy, environment, and the society here at Ashio Copper Mine.

Check Point

▶The guide will tell you about the lights and shadows, past and present of the city flourished as a “copper mining town” for about 400 years from the Edo period to the Showa period.

▶In this tour, you can see the reproduced Ashio Copper Mine underground that was called the largest mining city in Japan. You can also see from manual mining method in the Edo period to mechanized mining method.

     ②Ashio Copper Mine Sightseeing (About 60 minutes)

11:30    ~Lunch~

13:00  ③Ashio Environment Study Center (About 20 minutes)    

     ④Experience a tree-planting (About 60 minutes to 90 minutes)

      ※Tree-planting experience is only available from April ~ November.

15:00  Leave Ashio

16:00  Arrive at JR Utsunomiya Station, Dismiss
