Cutting-edge farm working on SDGs project
Farm of Utsunomiya University

We will introduce you the latest Livestock Research and Educational Facilities and Center aiming for both animal welfare and productivity.

The Farm at Utsunomiya University was established in 1922 and rebuilt as a general farm in the current place in 1983. In 2023, education and research building and cowhouse were completely renovated. In this inspection, you can see cows’ living environment in the latest animal welfare cowhouse. In general, cows in a farm are very sensitive, so it is difficult for them to interact with anyone other than those involved. However, since students who come for practical training and farm staffs have a good relationship with the cows, they are able to keep a close distance from them and offer you a valuable hands-on experience.

Unlike Japanese centralized management style, this farm is conducting the European grazing style, so it enables them to keep the cows under non-stressful environment. You can experience a very valuable visit corresponding to the SDGs era which is not easy to see in Japan.
In addition, the farm is working on qualitative improvement of farm products, producing and selling two major brands “Ubu series” which is farm product as represented by “Yudai 21 (paddy rice cultivated nationwide)” and “Junboku series (dairy product).”
