Sake Brewery Tour (Watanabe Sahei Shoten)

Sake brewery tour at a historic brewery founded in 1842 at the foot of the Nikko Mountains.

Since its founding in 1842, Watanabe Sahei Shoten has been brewing sake using the pure water from the Nikko Mountains and the cold winter air. With great weather, high-quality water, carefully selected rice, and the skills of passionate sake masters, they create delicious sake with care.

The brewery believes that "Junmai-shu" (pure rice sake) is the true local sake. In fact, about 90% of their sake is Junmai-shu, making them number one in Tochigi Prefecture for this style.

Brewery tours are available throughout the year and are highly loved by many visitors. Please come and visit when you travel to Nikko! (Reservation is required by the day before).

Check Point

▶The Perfect Climate and Water

Located at the foot of the Nikko Mountains, at an elevation of 400 meters, it is cool in summer and very cold in winter. This freezing winter cold is perfect for making high-quality sake. The brewery sits on land formed by the Daiya River, which flows from the famous Kegon Falls. Because of this, we are blessed with excellent, pure groundwater.
