Cave Sake Brewery Tour (Shimazaki Shuzo)
Step into Another World on a Cave Sake Brewery Tour
Located in Nasukarasuyama, Tochigi, Shimazaki Shuzo is a historic sake brewery with over 170 years of tradition since 1849. They age their sake in a fascinating underground cave, which was originally built at the end of World War II to manufacture military tanks. The cave’s natural environment is perfect for long-term aging, creating exceptional sake made from premium rice and pure spring water from Mount Nasu. Inside, it feels like a labyrinth, featuring three 100-meter vertical tunnels and five 60-meter horizontal tunnels, stretching 600 meters in total.
●Tablet Audio Guides Available
One tablet with an automated audio guide is available per group. (Supported languages: English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese)
●Inside the Cave
Completely shielded from sunlight, the temperature inside the cave remains at an average of 10°C (50°F) year-round. With only a gentle fluctuation of about ±5°C, this unique environment provides the perfect conditions for aging and storing sake.
